Letters for Josh

Hello all,

I want to give you an update of Joshua. He left last Tuesday for boot camp at Parris Island in South Carolina. We received a
call from him (10 seconds of yelling the message) stating that he was there. We are very proud of him and excited that he
is finally fulfilling his dream. He has endure many challenges to get here and is very excited to be doing what he is doing. There
were days when he felt like giving up and moving on to something else, but then remembered what his goal was. He want's to
serve in the military and serve with the best brotherhood he could. I even tried to talk him into the Air Force at one time. Response:
"No way Dad, they are not tough enough."

I tell you these things because I want you to see the tenacity this young man has. He is focused on the challenge at hand, has
researched as much as he can to find out how boot camp will be, and has trained for many years to be in this position. Yet through
all of this, no one can be prepared for the mental and physical pressures that are placed on recruits in their quest to become Marines
and join a lifelong brotherhood. As a father of one Marine and soon to be two, I have a glimpse of the challenges he is going through.
Jayson knows what he is going through because he has gone through it. One mistake I made with Jayson is that I didn't get the
address information out to all of you in time so that you could write to him. I am trying to correct that mistake now.

Now, more than ever, Joshua needs our support. He needs to see letters. He gets beat up daily and has very little time for himself
and so wouldn't it be great to see letters from family and friends to prod him along and boost his spirits. Please write to my son and
support him.

His address is:

Anderson, Joshua T. 1544
PLT 3006, CO. MIke, BN 3rd
Box 13006
Parris Island, SC 29905-3006

Thank you in advance for supporting him.
Love ya,
Jon

P.S. He will be there through Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. If you feel compelled to send "Care" packages, the caution is
"DON'T". They get harassed if they receive anything but plain letters without perfume, fancy envelopes, etc.

I received a call this morning from Mike making sure that I've heard about Brent and had seen the blog. I've talked to Dad and Grandma on the phone but have been completely incapacitaed when it comes to commenting on the blog. Pretty darn torn up about it, and can't imagine what Dad, his sibs, Dave, Gram and Mom must be going through.

thanks to each of you who have written so far ... It means so much to Josh and to his mom and daddy too!

We know you love him, your letters remind him of that on those long hard boot camp days.

Yes please send Josh a quick letter. You can ask anyone who ever went to Basic Training how much a letter means. Does not have to be long in fact shorts ones are great because they don't give them much time to read. Everyone letter goes along ways towards letting them know that someone in the world cares about them.
