Uncle Brent has passed

Brent Harris Ward (62) passed away November 14, 2007 in Phoenix, Arizona after an extended battle with a degenerative brain disorder that robbed him of the active life he so thoroughly enjoyed. An avid skier, Brent shined as a slalom racer on a very strong Weber College ski team in 1964. Following his passion for skiing, and under the tutelage of Earl Miller, Brent became a fully certified PSIA ski instructor at Snow Basin at the young age of 22. Many young people, including his son David, benefited from his thoughtful and patient instruction. Born in Ogden, UT on December 26, 1944 Brent attended Ogden secondary schools, Ben Lomond High School, Weber College and went on to graduate from the University of Utah with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1970. That same year, Brent married Laurel Kunz and was the proud father to son David in 1972. Brent loved the outdoors and enjoyed water skiing, photography, sailing, hiking and bicycling, especially with his family members. He was preceded in death by his father Charles E. Ward (1995) and is survived by his mother Marjorie H. Ward, brothers Doug and Kelly, sister Kathy Willis, son David, sister-in-law LaRee Ward, daughter-in-law Monica Ward, and grandchildren Simone and Nicholas Ward. A member of a large family, Brent was a beloved Uncle to many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, all of whom will dearly remember his bright smile, gentle manner, and loving guidance. Services will be held at the Lindquist Mortuary (32nd and Washington) in Ogden, UT on November ___, 2007 at _____. In lieu of flowers donations to Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, AZ (602.530.6900) would be greatly appreciated.
Note: We're still waiting for word from the mortuary as to the date and time of the service.

This is a beautiful obituary Dad. Thank you for posting it to the blog so that we could all read it. We will all miss Brent. And he was very loved. I know that he felt that love from his family while he was in the hospice. He was strong willed and strong spirited and kept living life and doing as much as he could of the things he enjoyed (e.g. music, computer, skiing, bicycling, etc)despite the struggle that his body gave him.

I'll book my flight as soon as I know when the funeral will be.

Love you all.

Kristi

Dad,
I am so sorry to hear this. I know Brent is in a happier place freed from his broken body but it is still so hard to lose him. Brent inherited grandpas gentle spirit and I will miss his smile.

Dad,

I am sorry for your loss and for all of our loss. Brent was a wonderful man, and he will be missed in all our lives. His smile always reminded me of grandpa's. I will always remember this summer on the boat with him and how much he really enjoyed himself out there with us. I will truly miss him.

Thanks to all of you. Uncle Brent was an unassuming, caring, loving, sharing, patient man. He was always interested in what you guys were doing. In the past 20 years he enjoyed many of your special events and always had a great smile to share. He attended graduations, baptisms, birthday parties, cheered at soccer games and watched you and your kids blow out lots of candles. Many of you have been the recipient of his "used" gear including skis, boots, computers, etc, etc. We'll all miss him but he has thrown his walker away and he's running or biking around heaven with perfect balance waiting for the 1st snow storm. Go U. Brent go!

Please note that Uncle Brent's obituary is the collaborative effort of grandma, Uncle Kelly, mom, Monica and me but it was really personalized by his son David.

I was thinking tonight how I loved to sit next to Uncle Brent when I was holding Chas as a baby. Uncle Brent liked to just watch Chas move and jump, squirm and smile. He particularly liked Chas' "sticky up" hair. He would softly touch it and smile. I am sad that I can't come and be with you all. The kids and I are thinking of you!

When I heard the news from Doug, I quickly pictured Brent's smile and remembered his patient attitude. I have many fond memories of him. The one I remember most is how he triseated my kids as well as everyone in his family. I wish I could have been there at the funeral, but my thoughts were truly there thinking of Brent and all of you. Love Jon

Uncle Brent had a very nice send off and I shared most of the comments attached here. I didn't see Jon's unti l today but I pretty much quoted him in what I had to say about U. Brent. He was a great man who had plenty of problems but rearly complained about any of them. I loved him very much and I know all of you did as well. Thanks for caring,
Dad/U. Doug/Grnadpa/Great Grandpa
