Matthew the mighty hunter!
Matthew got to go hunting for the first time. We went to Montana about 3 hours from our house. Matthew shot a large bison. We are having it butchered and will have the meat after thanksgiving. If you are in Spokane, you can try some. Bison is about the best tasting meat I have ever had.
The herd of Bison as Matthew is getting ready to shoot.
Matthew standing in the middle of the herd. That Bison standing behind Matthew is about 3 feet away and weighs about 800 pounds we are hopping she stays where she is. This is the scariest point, if the herd was to run towards us we could not stop them and we could not move out of the way.

She sure looks a lot further away then 3 feet. It sounds and looks like you had a good time out there. I look forward to a big juicy steak when we come visiting.
No kidding 3 feet we were waving our arms to try to get it to back away. The man whose land we were on finely got his dog to chase it away. We will have that steak next time you are in Spokane.
You're very brave Matthew! I know I couldn't do what you did. Your dad took me pheasant hunting when I was about your age. I got allergies so bad that my eyes were shut for two days and your dad had to quit hunting to bring me home... Another time I went elk hunting with my cousin Darin... he gave me a gun when we saw a big bull, but I couldn't bring myself to shoot it. Instead I shot wide and scared it off. People don't invite me hunting anymore. I'm glad there are hunters in the world, otherwise people like me would only be eating spinach and vinegar.
Go Matthew! Did you have to draw a permit for the hunt? I have never been a hunter. Your uncle Charlie ruined all my chances to go. Actually I think grandpa would rather golf than hunt and that is the reason I never went. Uncle Michael talked about going just for the chance to scare all the Moose we could. Michael and I owe the meese (mooses?) ((Gaggle of moose??)) some payback.
Was it a bull or a cow?
It was a cow they have better meat. The hunt was on private land so you just have to pay the landowner to shot his Bison.
I thought that you were in North Dakota at first. Sounds like a pretty amazing experience! I'm curious too how you all ended up on the hunt.
Congratulations Matthew! I'm a lot like Charlie. If I'd been there I would have tried to scare the bison I'm glad you're eating the meat. I'm also glkad that bison stayed behind you, Matthew. You should post that picture as a dare devil event. Love you, Matthew. Grandma Ward
P.S. What doesw your Mom think about the hunt?
I really love Bison. It is my favorite land mammal-they are so magnificent and beautiful. I was kind of sad about eating it. So, to prove my point I asked David what his favorite animal was and would he it eat and he replied-cow.
I can't win with D. The man said that Matt was very mature and listened, so I was very proud and glad that bison steak is so good.
Dude -
you are totally brave. I'm printing this out and sending it to Josh at boot camp. I'll tell him to just be as brave as you are and he'll be a good Marine :-)
love you kiddo!
