I'm sure that you are relieved to have some peace and quiet in town.

Without the tourists the town doesn't exist! When I lived in Southern Maine it was the same way but rather than seeing the closing, I slowly saw things comin to live. There were very few things open when I lived there ... but I lived only a few miles from a "real" town where there were shops open all the time so it was not a huge deal. On Mt. Desert Island it is going to be even more difficult than usual to shop!
It is all a very amazing and intersting place to experience.
