A split rail fence. I thought it was interesting visually. Not really historical except I found out that when farmers of this era cleared out feilds they put the rocks underneath the fence to keep animals from pushing the fences over. I was shocked at the size of some of the rocks that were laying about the whole area and the number of rock fences I saw.

Palmyra, NY
I spent the last week in Manchester NY putting a VOIP system in at one of our plants. Manchester is literally 5 miles from Palmyra. While I was there I went to several of the LDS Church Sites after work and/or on my way to the airport. I thought some of you would like to see the pictures.

Inside the Sacred Grove. It was tough photograpically but still nice for me to visit.

Looks like the weather was pretty dark until you got to the Temple and Monument. I wish we had taken another day to go over to Palmyra while we were in the area. We did however, visit Joseph Smith's birth place (that was very special by the way. We also visited the ME, NH and VT State Houses on our way back to the Manchester (NH) airport. Mom and I couldn't beleive how hilly Vermont is. We suspect that everyone who lives there has one leg longer that the other. It's not oftern that you get to stand on level ground.
Kristi and I went to Palmyra when I drove with her to ME. We had the same kind of weather. I would love to be there on a spring day like it was when the young Joseph went into the grove to pray. Even though it was cold the spirit was strong and it was wonderful to be in a place where our Heavenly Father and His Son had been. I'm glad you got to go there. (great pictures, as usual!)
Yep mom and I did go. It is nice to go in the "off season" because there are very few people there and the missionaries have so much more time to talk to you in each of the houses.
I did go in the spring once (just before I left Maine last year at the end of May). It was pretty ... but much like Maine spring comes late in upstate New York. The winters are long and cold and spring has to work very hard to bring forth the leaves and blooms.
I went to all of those sights in the middle of summer. It was such a beautiful place.
i went there several years ago. it must have been early spring becuase there are flowers in the pictures i took.
the sacred grove and surrounds are beautiful - the little town of palmyra doesn't look like it has changed much over time; not surprising since the area has really suffered population loss over the years.
your pictures are really good dan (as usual) -my favorite is the logs.
