Charlie and I went snow shoeing today up Big Cottonwood Canyon. It was a beautiful day with a lot of deep snow that we occasionally fell into. Charlie said that it was about a five mile trip. I was quite exhausted but I felt better when Charlie mentioned the altitude. I liked that excuse for being tired rather than being out of shape because I haven't done much physical activity since November when the end of day light savings time turned the lights out in Maine.

Charlie noticed this snow art along the trail. It is always fun to see how winter and snow transforms the world.

This is a cave at the top of Doughnut Falls. It was a really cool place to go, especially in the winter where you have the paradoxes of running water, ice, and green lichen.

This is a view of the cave from the outside.

This is Charlie thinking "she sure takes a long time to take pictures, I hope we make it down before it gets too cold."

Charlie and I just before we slid down the waterfall.

Now I wish I had gone. My hip feels much better today and it'll probably be all better tomorrow. This is a wonderful place. When I see something like this I'm reminded all over again that Charlie knows more about the Front Range than anyone I know. Great post!
what no video of sliding down the waterfall? Chuck you're slacking off!
The trip looks beautiful; you two are always doing something fun. It makes me miss you more than ever!
Sounds like a great trip. I'm jealous!
How come I did not get invited to this? Oh that's right, I was snorkeling at Cabo when you were doing this. Did you get the cache while you were up there? I have a few way-points in my GPSR for that canyon.
It looks beautiful, I have snowshoes anytime you want to invite me along.
Where is the cache? In the cave? I didn't even look any caches up.
I dont know where they are, I just know there are some up there. I was hiking up Mill creek and added that one thinking it was close to where I was going.
We went skiing near there last year very nice place. But then it had signs telling you not to go to Doughnut Falls because you had to cross private land. I brought my cross-country skis to Utah we will have to get out while I am in town.
Deb, I'm posting the videos on Marley... although my batteries quit working because of the cold so I didn't get any of the cave or sliding down the fall ice... It was a great time. Kate is always up for adventure. I'm sure we can get our brothers out while Dave et.al. are here this week. With three feet of freshies on the ground I doubt anyone will be finding any geocaches though.
