Katie's Flower

Katie's primary teacher gave her an amaryllis bulb about a month ago and told them if they took care of the plant it would bloom by Christams. (Charlie will appreciate the formal name. To me it is a bulb) Well sure enough Katie was a good gardner and look at the results! She has been very diligent about watering the bulb, rotating the plant so the flower grew somewhat straight and we now have a beautiful flower. It looks like we will get three of four blossoms out of the deal and they are quite beautiful. The other kids have been very excited to see it grow as well. As you can see in the picture the plant is nearly 3 feet tall!

That is pretty cool! Okay, maybe if I were a plant I would be an amaryllis bulb =). Growing plants is such an amazing process to watch and to be a part of!

That is true. Generally I don't have much patience in growing things unless I can get food out of it though.

Wow! Katie, that is a beautiful flower; it's perfect. You did an amazing job of caring for it so it would grow right. I'm proud of you!

That is a very nice flower. It is always fun to see something grow. Don't let the water police know about it indoor plants will be next on the list of what you cannot water.

Wow! That's beautiful Katie! I can't believe how straight and TALL it is. All that rotating must have done the trick.

There are a lot of plants people in our family. Grandma Larsen (pansies, veggies, snowball bush), Grandpa Ward (petunias, et al), Grandpa Doug (best lawn on the street), it must grow in the family.

Wow that's really a great looking flower Kate! And what an interesting lesson you have taught everyone; when you plant a good thought (bulb) in clean suroundings (fertile soil)and follow what you know is right (care for it) you are rewarded with a beautiful life (flower). I know you love to work with your dad in the garden and that's because you understand if you keep the weeds under control and the plants nourished they'll grow and provide food. What a wonderful hobby you have!
