Resolution Run

Joe crossing the finish line ... Go go go Joseph!

Joe and I rang in the New Year by running our first 5K together. Joe had a great first run, finishing in 35:10 (282 of 358 runners) and I beat my last race time by 1:48 for a 30:57 (206th place). Mostly we had fun running through one of our favorite places - Patterson Park. This particular race supports Earl's Place, which offers transitional housing as well as training and other services for homeless men.
Graduates of Earls Place were on hand after the race to feed racers chili, cornbread and homemade cookies (yum!) prepared by members of St. Elizabeth's of Hungary Catholic Church - a key partner for Earl's Place. We cheered for their accomplishments and for the winners in each category --- I have something to aim for as there were plenty of folks, including a 69 year old, who beat me across the finish line!

STILL (and my time is running out, so I'll brag while I can) .... the family record is

  1. 1st - Mom

  2. 2nd - Joe

  3. 3rd - Josh

There is an 80+ year old man who has beat me twice in the Spud! Looks like a fun run! and the "shared compassion" with the organizations which support and benefit from the run is cool.

Looks like a good race. I did not get out of bed in time to do the one in Spokane on the 1st this year. They have one in a few weeks that I hope to get done. Although I will not even come close to your time. Was Josh's time from last year?

Joshua's time was something like 45 minutes, but he's currently running 3 miles in about 21 minutes. He'll kick my arse when we run next time and as soon as he sees how i abuse him he'll pay both our race fees just to prove it.

i'm aiming for 1,000 miles this year (you've gotta get a nike+, sooo cool!) and a 10K by my birthday. I find i like distance more than speed, but with only 3 - 4 minutes separating me from winners in my age category (yeah i'm a MASTER, who hoo!) i wouldn't mind winning a race before i die so I train for both.

Love the passion you guys have for competition ... I never had any desire to run but GOLF that's another matter. Can't wait to see everyone the ned of the week.
Love,
Dad

Looks like that record is about to be broken. He's only a few minutes behind you already.

Deb, when you said "I train for both" are you referring to distance and speed or winning a race and dying. I personally try not to, but probably realistically am, training like the latter.

Pretty funny Charlie! LOL =)

These local races are always a lot of fun. I thought maybe you two were in training for the Spud, but I don't see you on the list of competitors. Maybe next year. After this year, you will have 5 Sib's/aunts or uncles with better Spud times then you have. Train train, there are a couple of younger brothers that are fast!!
