I had the honor of writing/editing the tribute to Chad from our team. It's as follows:
It is with great sorrow that we learned of Chad's passing. He was a dear friend and a long-time member of our swim team. Chad loved swimming and was an accomplished freestyler.
He traveled with our aquatic club to several championship meets; and like everything in life, he participated fully. He was a great contributor to many of our social events and in particular loved anything theatrical especially if it involved dressing up. At one party he came dressed as Superman, à propos for he was.
Chad was an amazing person. He was good natured, fun-loving, infectiously kind, happy and free-spirited. Chad never stopped smiling. He loved adventure, art, good food, friends and conversation. Conversation often turned to his family, particularly his nieces, nephews and younger sister. It was obvious how important they were to him.
Chad placed no judgements on others. He loved unconditionally. You could talk to Chad about anything. He was intelligent, creative, caring and sincere, and never caused drama or tension with anyone. Chad was inclusive, had many friends, had a unique way of bringing people together, and could find common ground with anyone.
Our hearts go out to all of his friends, family and “adopted” families around the world. He had a flair for life, was an amazingly loving friend, and will always be remembered and loved.
Adieu notre cher ami. Puissiez-vous trouver la paix où que vous alliez.

Charlie, I am sorry for the loss of your friend. I know that it is very hard for you. You did a wonderful job writing about him for your swim team. Chad sounds like a wonderful person, with a love of many good things in life. While his life was short, it sounds like he lived it well and passionately. Keep your chin up and let your good memories sustain you. I love you very much. MOM
Charlie, I'm very sorry for your loss. As I read what you have written about your friend I am very proud that my son cares so much about another's life. You have lost a good friend whom you hold in high regard ... I'm not sure what I can say to help you feel better other than to observe that Chad was very lucky to have you as a friend. Our family is caring and loving in large part because of your example. Keep your light shinning brightly so that the rest of us have a beacon we can continue to guide on!
You're a great son and a fantastic person and I love you very much,
Dad
Charlie, I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Your tribute was very nice and I'm sure that it was a nice opportunity for you to mourn as you were writing it.
Much love,
Kristi
Charlie,
I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. It is tough to lose someone that was close to you. You did a nice job expressing your feelings in the tribute.
Sorry for your loss. Is this the same friend that you went to France with?
Charlie,
I am sorry for you loss, its always hard to lose someone you care for, losing them at such a young age makes it all that harder. Remember all that he was to you and he will stay with you forever.
This week has been pretty rotten. One thing Chad and I had in common was fond we are of our neices and nephews. It was so aweful for me to see all those kids at the funeral.
Like me he missed seeing them due to geographical separations. I'm really glad we have this blog to keep up with each other.
I hope everyone knows how glad I am to be a part of this family.
Thanks for the kind words.
Ditto back at you! We're at Jayson and Jaqui's house and everyone here says "WE LOVE YOU Charlie!". Hope the days ahead are better than the past week.
Love you,
Dad
