Michael and I were chatting today, talking about his fishing trip. He sent me a link that had this picture. I was astounded to see the reservoirs are this low in the Snake River basin. I don't know if it is normal for the lakes to draw down this low in the winter. It is amazing how we depend on dams and the resulting reservoirs in our daily lives. All of the water in my house comes from Lake Lanier which is a huge reservoir north of Atlanta. I know mom and dad get their water from the colorado river in arizona via lake powell. Do any of you know if you are dependent on reservoirs for your water?

Here we get it from some of the natural lakes on the island ... and then the state of Maine puts all kinds of gunk in it so that it tastes awful.
We get all of ours out of the ground. And it tastes good. Not quite cabin water but very good. If you care to look he is info about our aquifer.

We get our water out of the local stream and wells, nothing from the dams. We do get some water in the area from dams for some of the farms. It is scary how low the water levels are here in the west.
Wow... what i didn't know could fill books, and does. Thanks Dan for this interesting topic. I was facinated by the map mike & you posted.
I was interested to come across this article about the history of Salt Lake City water developement.

Interesting Articles from Charlie and David. David gets his water from lakes just like the rest of us although his has to travel underground for a while first!
You are correct Dan it's just an underground lake and it's not man made. Do you have the link to the chart you posted?

Things have slowed down, but there is still a lot more water going out there there is coming in.
That is a great link. I was hoping they would have something on the Columbia drainage but no. I did look at the Boise River and that one is at 25%. So maybe everything is just low this time of year but 11% is low
