I've decided to put up temporary fences to keep the deer out. I am not super worried about them eating anything in the winter but I want to make sure that what I have up works until we can get a real fence up so that when the bulbs (and my other perennials) start to bloom in the Spring they won't be eaten!

So do you have the fence running all the way around the back yard or do they mainly come through the front yard from the golf course?
I have two fences blocking off the front yard but I also have fences blocking off the neighbors yard. It has snowed so if any deer do get it hopefully I will be able to see how and where. It is my suspicion that most of them come from the golf course but I am sure that there are some that come by way of the street to the back yard neighbors.
Oh, and by the way, it snowed!!! =)
And the deer battles go on. Reminds me of all the efforts I made in North Carolina to stop the little bushy tail buggers (squirrels) from eating all the bird seed. I suspect that we'll have to stop the neighbors from going through the fences too. How is the Nativity doing with the snow?
The deer broke through all of the fences early this morning. My next attempt will be to block off specific areas where I have planted vulnerable plants until we can get a real fence.
The Nativity and Santa both had trouble with the snow. I had to help them stand up several times. I have them up right now so that they can get completely thawed out in the gorgeous sunny day.

It is turning into an intersesting competition! :) I love the updates!
Them deer are determined. :) They know you have good stuff in that yard.
You just need to get a pet wolf and your deer problem will go away. Unfortunately some of the neighbor children might as well.
Pet Wolf? That's a bit drastic!
Yep, we definitely need a pet wolf! either that or I am going to have to start sleeping outside with my plants. Maybe early tomorrow morning I will watch for deer and run outside making wild gestures and noises to scare the deer away.
In AZ almost every yard has a cute deer scupture in their yard--little do they know they are not the gentle innocent creatures they are depicted as.
We sell good deer fence material at Amcor, come on down I will make you a good deal....there is nothing that tells a deer to stay out then a good CMU 15' tall wall!! Maybe some flags on the fence would help the deer see the fence before they run through it.
I did hear about the flag trick but I didn't do it. It is the motion that they see or the color? I know that they have different vision than humans (e.g. they can see color but not to the extent that humans do because they use more of the rods and less of the cones)
Kristi, you are becoming an expert on depretty soon you'll be in demand to give lectures on how to outsmart the critters.
