With a day off we took the chance to catch up on some stuff that had been neglected during soccer season. We spent some much needed time in the garden and in the yard, did a little painting and cleaning up around the house. After the work we went to see Horton Hears a Who. It was a fun show. A really good show for the kids. We even went to the pool. It was still to chilly for Crystal and I but the kids had fun!

This is my watering technique for drought stricken GA. I am using the water that is wasted as I wait for the water to get hot in the shower in the morning. I usually end up with two buckets full of water that goes to the garden each day. It is still legal to water vegtable gardens but I figure if the water is being wasted anyhow I can use it.

Emma and Chas helped weed the garden. Most of their time was spent asking how long they had been weeding and/or transplanting ladybugs from weeds to the tomato plants. It was still fun to be out there though. We managed to get the weeds out of the onions. Have I mentioned that we have 100 onions planted?

Katie is finally old enough to mow the lawn. She loves to do it and does a great job. Right now she is restricted to the front yard where it is flat. Eventually she will do the whole yard and I will take it easy.

This looks like a good weekend workout. Does Katie mow lawns in UT? I should put the girls to work doing this, I hate to mowing the lawn! I am very jealous of the tomato plants, most of mine are smaller then 6". I was very slow planting my garden this year. I might have as many onions as you do, I moved my herb garden over the weekend and found lots of them little onions grown in there. I will see how they turn out this fall.
Your garden looks great! Ukraine is FULL of gardens I love it!!! You see them everywhere. They have such wonderful rich soil here. The food here is very wondeful because it is so much based on vegetables!!! I love that too =)
The watering buckets is so amazing to me Dan. A) that you don’t have enough water and B) that you shower with buckets. Good for you. I have several friends that use rainwater to water their gardens. Dad on the other hand has so much water he waters the neighbors yard as well (a sprinkler pipe broke when doing the retaining wall, and nobody noticed until Saturday).
I'm so glad to see Katie wearing hearing protection. We've decided that's probably what happened to my ears. Nothing genetic, just bad decisions about loud noises. I was the first walkman generation. Mom always said that I shouldn’t play my music so loud.
I loved the back to school and end of school pictures as well. It’s amazing what a year of hard work will do to a person.
Katie is proof of what you kids always suspected--that parents have children so they can have some one to do the work! You go Katie, mowing the lawn was my favorite outdoor chore.
And Chas and Emma--way to go with taking care of the ladybugs. That's much more important than weeding onions!
And Dan, I'll see you when the tomatoes get ripe!
Glad to see you working hard to save that water. No shortage in Spokane everything is at flood stage. I will have to show Matthew and Shelby that Katie mows the lawn. On the other hand, Lana should show them I don't mow it now.
It is legal for us to water the garden with regular water. I have just decided that I will do my part and use the excess water. Our reservoir is still very very low so any little part helps.
I don't let Katie mow any part of the lawn that is hilly. Right now she is restricted to level ground only. She likes to do it as well.
Mowing the lawn with hearing protection is great. You can listen to a ball game, or music without increasing the volume! I was shocked how loud I turned up my MP3 player last year to be able to hear.
