I have been in Nampa this past week for work. I installed a server up there. After I was done I drove back to Utah to fly home. As my co-worker and I were driving down I-15 from tremonton we could see smoke rising. By the time we got to Odgen the fire was all the way up the mountain and really going. There were three airplanes overhead and one helicopter was dropping water on the fire. It was amazing to see how fast that fire moved up the mountain. The fire looks like it started at the mouth of Odgen Canyon and then burned up the mountain.
I also saw Grandma while I was in Odgen. She seemed really down. It might be good to give her a call.

I have watched a few fires burn the hills around Utah Valley and it always amazes me how fast they can burn up the side of the mountain. With a nice breeze behind it, a fire can be to the top of the hills a lot faster then most of us could out run it. Very scary to be out there hiking when one of these starts up.
Looking at this made me think of a story that grandpa told me about setting one of the canyons on fire when he was growing up in Ogden. After they had set it on fire and where running away an old farmer met them with gunnysacks and they had to go beat it out. He told me he was always much more respectful of fire after that. Look at that photo I can see grandpa up there pounding out the fire.
