The nursing home was abuzz today with the sights of two huge cruise ships coming into port today. One of the nurses' husbands works aboard a ship that goes out on whale watching trips and she was excited all day knowing that her husband was helping shuttle the passengers from the ship to the harbor (because they were too large to dock in the harbor). It was an interesting experience to be a port of call. As I was leaving Acadia NP tonight I noticed that one of the ships was leaving port and heading South.

Cool Stuff. I have never lived near enough the ocean to be near a port of call.
Are you going to go out on a whale watching trip while you are there? I have never done it but I think it would be fun to do.
Whale watching is great. I have done it a few time on the OR coast. What time of year do they hit Bar Harbor?
Watch a whale for me!
I am going to go Whale watching. I think that they go until October but I need to check!
It looks like you had Royal Caribbean Grandeur of the Seas and Norwegian Dawn in port yesterday. Its always fun to go on these cruises, I always enjoyed watching the other ships coming and going from ours. You will have one the largest cruise liners in the world(4th biggest if I remember correctly)coming into port on September 19th. The two that you saw yesterday were 74,000 and 91,000 ton ships. This one is a whopping 138,000 ton. I am sure its the largest that would call on Bar Harbor. Laura and I are looking at going on a cruise this Christmas and we would be sailing on the sister ship to the Norwegian Dawn if we decide to go to Mexico.
K,
This is a link to all the ships coming your way over the next couple of months. It looks like there will be a lot of excitement. The smallest boats that come into your harbor are the among the most expensive to sail on.

I would hate to suddenly have 3,000 people invade my town all at once. It sounds chaotic.
We had a cruise ship in town yesterday, today ... and will have another tomorrow and then the last one on the 31st. It will be a ghost town after that. It was funny I went to one of the shops today that is selling everything at 50%. I was surprised to see that today not everything was 50%. It took me a minute to realize that it was because the ships were in town ... now you know what happens when a big ship comes to town!
