Mt. Rainier Snowshoeing

Katie and I went up to Mt. Rainier to go for a snowshoe walk with the ranger on Saturday.  It was one of those rare winter days that were absolutely amazing.  Not a cloud in the sky all day long.  The last time we went Rainier it was hidden in the clouds all day so we didn't really get to see it.  There was 112 inches of snow on the ground at Paradise inn which is 30% below normal but was still an eye opener to us.  The park service let us use the snowshoes for a $1 donation.

IMG_3824The walk ended up being 1.5 miles and was pretty easy to do.  It hadn't snowed for a week and it was very easy to stay up on top of the crusty snow.  There were great views of the mountain for most of the time as well as exciting hills to climb up and down.

I'm thinking that you guys are thanking you lucky stars that you decided to move to Washington. Sounds and looks like a hike that you'll remember for a long time!

What a great place to hike, and a buck for the shoes wow. Can you use them for other hikes or just the ranger one? It was a beautiful weekend. Nothing like being out on the snow with the sun out!

That isn't Katie. Katie is a small child - this person is large.

What is going on in Washington?

When you all get to Maryland this summer I'd better check to see who needs bricks on their heads (though it does not seem to work on my kids ...)
