A day at the zoo

We spent our last free Saturday before soccer starts at the zoo.  It ended up being a nice day and we had fun out there.  The zoo has a show where various small animals from around the world are shown IMG_4532off.  Several parts of the shows have audience participation.  Chas was called up for the Harris Hawk.  The hawks actually stand on top of each other in the wild.  We were so busy laughing at the look on Chas’ head that we didn’t hear the reason why.  By the way there is a dead mouse on top of his costume.  (we looked online and they do it to look for prey as it is hard to find a perch in the desert)

The show also had a rescued eagle who had broken a wing.  We were able to get within a few feet of him (her??).  Absolutely amazing animals.  When you see this picture the term ‘eagle eye’ makes sense.  You feel like they can see everything!IMG_4552

The zoo sits in Pt Defiance Park which is a city park.  There are all sorts of beautiful gardens around the park.  The Flowers are just starting to come out now.  Charlie can probably look at the plants and identify them.  I just take pictures.

Not sure what kind of tree this is either but the kids sure had fun in it.  It is some sort of weeping evergreen.  Who knew that was possible??

Thanks for the up date. I played golf with a guy from Seattle over the weekend and he wasn't to kind to the city ... with all the fun things you guys do I wonder why anyone would want to leave it.

I'm not sure why people would not like it here. We do get a lot of dreary cold days. You just have to put on a jacket and enjoy the scenery. If you waited for a nice sunny day to have fun here you would wait a long time!

The weather in Arizona is always nice, well almost always until it gets hot than it's pretty difficut as you know ... but having a good time can't depend on the weather or you'd always be waiting for the perfect day and miss lots of fun and exciting things while you waited! By the way is Chas afraid of anything?

I don't know if it's fear, but Chas does has a healthy appreciation for ants. He has had experience with the fire variety.

I have heard that Harris Hawks stand on each other and I keep looking to see this phenomenon but haven't yet. Was it fun, Chas?

Gee, I wonder who would be so careless as to let little Chas get too close to fire ants?
