Chas and I put the first tomatoes in the garden this last weekend. Growing them here will definitely be more of an adventure than GA. It is supposed to be down in the low 30s this week. Mike turned me onto the walls o water that insulate the tomato plants. They keep the plants warm enough to plant early in the season. If they work as well as he says I will have tomatoes by the 4th of July. If not I will have 3 dead tomato plants at the end of the week! :)

I hope the 4th of July option turns out to be the one that comes to fruition!!!!
Good luck! Did it snow at your house yesterday? It did at mine, but I'm closer to the mountains than you are. It is supposed to warm up by next week.
If anybody can grow tomatoes in this crazy, unpredictable climate, you can.
Good luck tomoatoes!
I hope they are done before the 4th you will not be home then!
I'll be back on the 6th of July though. I stopped by a local garden center and he reccomended some varieties that grow really well in the Pacific NW.
I'm also going to plant some potatoes. Can't wait to have some bakers to nosh on! :)
It appears that your walls of water are only half full, did you fill them to the top? I would think you would be able to get some red ones by the end of June.....
June would be good bring some to spokane
I did fill them to the top after I got the tomatoes planted.
I have been tieing them shut at night because it has been so cold.
How do you protect them from mildew and rot?
