Dan's 35th

This post is kind of late but I couldn't get the picture off Dan's camera! We decided to make Dan a blackberry cake in honor of all his blackberry adventures. He has canned blackberry syrup, blackberry jam, and blackberry pie filling. It is all soooo good! We are so lucky to have him. He is an awesome Dad and husband! Unfortunately, even though this cake looks pretty it wasn't the best tasting cake I have ever made. Kind of a dense spice cake with fresh black berries. Definitely not as good as a dropped angel food cake so I will go back to that next year!

I think there might be a little room in my bags for a bottle or two, we will all have take turns distracting Dan so we can sneak some out. I just finished a book about a member of the 101st air born from OR and how he was always thinking of the wonderful black berries back home as he was fighting the battle of the Bulge slowing freezing to death. They are truly amazing little things.

Crystal, I started laughing about dropped-angel-food-cake the minute I saw the picture of the birthday cake--I was all set to make a commet but you beat me to the punch! Way to make a preemptive strike. I bet the blackberries would have tasted good with an angel food cake or a white cake with whipped cream.

the pictures were added later by me. I was supposed to email them to Crystal but I neglected that one.

We had waffles for lunch yesterday with blackberry syrup and whip cream. Can't beat it with a stick! (although I'm not sure why you would want to)

Happy Birthday Dan! I thought about you on your birtday, but didn't have a way to get in touch (no cell/email). I'm glad you all are a little closer now. That blackberry stuff sounds really really good. 35 is a great year!

Happy birthday Dan ... hadn't thought about it before but you are half my age plus a few days. Hope your next 35 years are as exciting and interesting as mine have been. Keep on having birthdays,
Dad
