The Move Part 2

Today was a short day on the road. We drove from St Louis to Nauvoo. We started out the day by trying to find the St. Louis Temple. That turned out to be and adventure in pain as all the roads that led there were closed. If we wouldn't have had the GPS we never would have found it.

We then drove through some really pretty country up to Nauvoo. We drove through Hannibal MO, the birthplace of Mark Twain. We didn't stop there because I had been told it was lame. We did stop at the Missouri welcome center. It was very exciting. We even took Barjona out for a picture.

Argggh Matey!

The printing press in Nauvoo was very interesting. They gave a short Demo. It is amazing to think that someone invented this machine and the way it revolutionized th world. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how they set the type backwords.

I think the kids enjoyed eating dinner at dairy queen as much as anything we did today.
We spent the last part of the day at the Nauvoo Temple. I took pictures of the temple, flowers, the sunset. It was a beautiful evening.

The Sunset over the Missisippi was incredible. I only posted 1 picture here but I oohed and ahhed about it and took quite a few pictures. That sunset was incredible to behold. It was fun to see a sunset that filled the sky like this. The kids were very patient as I snapped pictures of the sunset over the river. I thanked them for their patience and Katie said "It's OK. We're used to it!"

Now your getting to parts of the country I have been. I have never seen the St. Louis temple finished, the last time I was there it was under construction and me and a friend stopped there to check on the progress. Being a Ward and knowing those fences and no trespassing signs don't really apply to us, I walked right in and took a little tour of the temple (I did the same thing in NC if you remember). The next day at church there was a letter from the church telling us that we needed to stay away from the site until the open house in a few months. I guess they had a real problem with people showing up to the site and walking around.

I did not go up in the arch, it closed for a few weeks and we did not get to go up. I guess I don't need to go back now.

Don't hurry...it's rainy and cold here. It was so sunny and nice last week. I hope the weather is good when you arrive so that you don't think it is rainy and gray here all of the time...just most of the time:)

I notice that this posting was done just before Sunday became Monday. I assume you had a great time touring the different exhibits, right? I agree, the sunsets across the river are beautiful! I assume your next posting will be at Mt. Rushmore ... I know you'll be impressed. Stone Mtn. is impressive and I'm sure you will enjoy Mt. Rushmore as too.

(I didn't think Hanibel was lame). Nauvoo is a sacred place to me. My ancesters worked hard to build homes and farms and find peace and freedom to worship and believe in God. Some of my ancesters were in the Temple when Brigham Young had compassion on their desire to receive their Temple blessings--so they were able to do that before they started on their long, hard drive to find a new home. It must have torn their hearts out to move but I am thankful they did. Because of their willingness to sacrifice so much for the Gospel it has always strengthened my testimony. They were willing to sacrifice all they had for that testimony and as a result I have been able to live and learn about the Gospel. I have a big "thank you" for them when I meet them. Dan, I'm glad you and your family got a chance to visit Nauvoo.

You made a good call on Hannibal spending no time there gave you more time in Nauvoo. It was amassing to see what the pioneers went though. They turned a swamp into a nice town. I hope you have a great time at Wall Drug!
