We left Lilburn in the morning and arrived at Jekyll Island in the drizzly late afternoon. The drive to the island is very fun with a trip over a tall bridge which gives a fantastic view of the marshes of the intercostal waterway. From the bridge we drove through a gateway, of what looked to me like old Spanish architecture, that welcomed us to Jekyll Island. It was small but charming. From there we drove across a causeway where there were many beautiful birds and a close up view of the marshes. We put up the tent in the drizzle and decided to eat out rather than cooking in the rain.
Day Two on Jekyll Island
One of the kids favorite things to do is to jump over the waves. Dan & I joined in for a bit

These kids can have more fun with sand, water, and a bucket! It was fun to play with them and to watch them in their creations and imagination!
Jekyll Island has a lot of really cool large pieces of eroded "driftwood." Many are still intact trees as you can see in this picture.
It was blazing hot on the sound side of the Island and super cold on the ocean side of the island. I had my swimsuit on but I wimped out. Katie, Emma, Chas, and Dan were brave and played in the water despite the cold.

We had so much fun with you Krist!! Sometimes we stil say "Jekyll, Jekyll, Jekyll, Island, Island, Island!" I really glad that you edited your video so I wasn't heard to say dumb parenting things that first night at the beach like "don't get your shorts wet!"
Shrimp legs? You must have left that meal hungry! It looks like you had a lot of fun at a great place. Wish I had been there too!

The meal we had was 'low country boil' which is shrimp (in the shell with the legs still on), sausage, potatos and corn on the cob all boiled together. It is supposed to be a fantasic dish but the place we went to left something to be desired.
After the first nights meal we had a fantastic trip with lots of fun. Kate took hours of video. I can't wait to see the next installment!
As you notice in the cartwheel video Chas continues to move 3 times as fast as the rest of us.
Looks like you had a great time. It's hard to beat the beach.
