This one's for Mom

When we moved to North Carolina in the winter 1989 I don't think I had ever heard of a dogwood tree. When spring rolled around that year Mom oohed and aahed about the way the south seems to bloom everywhere you look. The thing I remember her talking about the most was the dogwoods. As she took us to school she described the dogwoods as lace in the forest. I have really come to appreciate the dogwood tree. I have five in my yard now. They are the last trees to bloom in the spring but I think they are worth the wait.

Dogwoods are one of the most beautiful trees to see in bloom. I think that first spring in NC, when I was suffering from terminal homesickness, the dogwoods were a sign that God is everywhere you go and He loves us so much that He created beauty as well as practical things. Thank you for posting the picture for me. It brings back many special memories of you and Kristi in NC. Someday I'll make it back to the south and see them in person again.

I love the dogwoods and the Dogwood story, But you have to watch for those ticks.

Dogwood blossoms seem to hang suspended in midair without being attached to anything and when the wind blows they dance back and forth to a silent tune. I love the South for a lot of reasons and watching the budding Dogwood burst forth in all their splender is certainly high on my list!
